While receiving support and guidance which are based on Godly principles, those coming for respite will have the opportunity to achieve success by developing friendships and reaching their fullest potential.
What is Respite?
At Shepherds Ministries we believe that people are created as individuals for community. Therefore, each respite receives an individualized plan that is developed at an initial meeting. They are involved in our program activities and are given the opportunity to work in a setting that best fits their needs. Spiritual life is also an important part of Shepherds Ministries. Individuals worship during a weekly chapel service and are invited to attend Bible classes as well as participate in smaller group devotions. They can also attend church services on Sundays and Wednesdays.
The Respite Program lasts a minimum of one week and a maximum of 30 days. It is designed for:
- Families who are considering placing an adult with developmental disabilities at Shepherds Ministries (A minimum two week respite stay is a requirement prior to admission.)
- Families who need a rest from the ongoing responsibilities of caring for an adult with developmental disabilities
- Adults with developmental disabilities who need new experiences in a loving, caring Christian environment
During each individual's respite stay there are at least three things that occur. This is especially important for those who are considering admission to Shepherds Ministries.
These three things are:
- The individual is evaluating how he/she is enjoying the experience of Shepherds Ministries.
- Parents and/or guardians are also evaluating Shepherds Ministries and the quality of services we are providing.
- Shepherds Ministries is assessing the individual's potential to fit into one of our programs.
If the respite visit goes well and if desired, the individual's name is added to our qualified list from which candidates are chosen to fill openings when they occur.
Who is responsible for respites?
The Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the application process as well as serving as the Respite Case Manager. The Program Coordinator monitors the respite's stay and stays in close contact with family. While at Shepherds the respite receives 24 hour care through a support staff consisting of a unit manager, living skills instructors, nursing personnel, job coaches, night workers and the administrative staff. Each of our support staff personnel are trained in his or her field to meet the special needs of each individual and those in respite care.
What is the cost?
The $400.00 per week charge includes room, board, and programming. The charges for the first week are required within 10 days of the confirmed respite dates. The $400.00 for the second week is due on or before the first day of respite care. An additional late fee of $50.00 will be added if the required paperwork is not in at least 14 days prior to the day of admission for respite stay.
There will be additional costs that may be incurred above the Respite Care Cost. Below are some examples:
