Shepherds Advocates, Inc. came into existence to answer the question: Who will serve as guardian for my loved ones in the event that family members or close friends become unavailable or no longer feel they can serve?
Society declares that everyone becomes legally responsible at age 18. Financial, medical, and other choices are important decisions for adult individuals. Adults with developmental disabilities, however, often need guidance with important choices and decisions. This support often falls to family members. Shepherds Advocates, Inc. is a guardianship organization that has brought comfort to many parents and families who can no longer serve their loved one. The purpose of Shepherds Advocates, Inc. is to serve adults with a developmental disability and their families.
Shepherds Advocates, Inc. is a separate corporation serving alongside Shepherds Ministries. As a corporate guardian entity under Wisconsin law, Shepherds Advocates, Inc. operates independently, offering an unbiased watch over the care, compassion and supports being given at Shepherds and at other care providers. All individuals served by Shepherds Advocates, Inc. require a court-assigned, appropriate level of guardianship. As guardian of the person and the estate of adults with a disability, Shepherds Advocates, Inc. requires involvement in decisions affecting things such as residential care, vocational services, medical/dental concerns, and financial oversight .
