A Catalyst is seen as an agent that provides or speeds significant change or action. The mission of this program is to provide support and guidance based on Godly principles to ensure that individuals will achieve success and develop their full potential while living in environments that enhance independence. In order for this to happen change is required. There are 3 components to Catalyst. They are:
Currently there are two group homes in Catalyst. These homes do not have 24 hour staffing and the men and women who reside in them receive individualized services based on their needs. There is not a significant difference between the men and women who reside in these homes and those who receive contractual services. However, the homes provide a little more structure and security. They are seen as a stepping stone for some and will help them further develop skills that will enable them to eventually live in the community.
There are currently 23 individuals receiving contractual services. These services are based solely on the needs of the individual and are documented in a service contract that is reviewed and signed annually. These individuals receive all of their income and are billed only for the services they receive. They are totally responsible for paying their own bills including rent, phone, electric, cable and groceries…just like you and me. Several have been able to lease government subsidized apartments and receive other funding that they would not be eligible for if they resided at Shepherds.
Our consulting services provide us with the opportunity to assist agencies and people in other states who want to develop group homes similar to Shepherds. At this point our assistance has been mainly informational but we hope to eventually be able to support them through training, staffing and programming.
