Here are a few of the tongue twisters they wrote:

"Sally salmonella sailed south smiling seriously".  ~ Brian

Down Syndrome Awareness Month

Posted By Tracy N. Terrill, Monday, October 13, 2008

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month and earlier this month I had the privilege of attending the Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin Buddy Walk where we had an exhibit for Shepherds College.  It was a pleasure to share Shepherds College with numerous families and witness their response to the idea that their child could one day pursue a postsecondary education.  I was thoroughly impressed by the prevailing attitude of joy that permeated the event.  Participants, young and old alike, were in a celebratory mood as they walked to promote awareness, acceptance, and assistance of and for individuals with Down syndrome.

In recognition of Down Syndrome Awareness Month, an article appears in the most recent issue of Christianity Today entitled Surprised By Disability.  It is written by Al Hsu, whose three-year-old son has Down syndrome.  Here is a link to the article: http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2008/october/15.100.html.

Students will take exams during the week of October 6, 2008.  Please pray for students as they prepare to take exams.  Pray that the students would be successful in their studies.  Pray that students wouldn't be worried about taking exams.

New SC Faculty Members

Posted By Tracy N. Terrill, Thursday, September 18, 2008
As we conclude the sixth week of Shepherds College, it is exciting to look back and consider what has been accomplished during this time with regards to the growth of the students and the development of SC.  This blog will be used to share with you some of the highlights from SC.
Recently we have added to our faculty by filling some key positions.  God has provided for our staffing needs in a tremendous way and I am confident that the addition of these individuals to our SC faculty team will greatly enhance our overall program.

Academic Advisor / Instructor:  Angela Houk brings a great deal of ministry experience to Shepherds College.  She has led tutoring programs, trained hundreds of youth workers, and has taught young people ages 6 to 18.  Throughout her life Miss Houk has reached out to help others serving as a mentor, lay counselor, and Bible instructor.  She has a Bachelor’s degree from UW-Stevens Point and has completed Bible training at New Tribes Bible Institute and is currently closing in on a Master of Art & Religion degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.  We are excited to welcome Miss Houk and believe she will positively impact our students and our overall program.

Residential Life Coordinator / Instructor:  Jenna Patton who makes the transition from her former role as a unit supervisor at Shepherds to this new position in SC, brings a great deal of specific experience and a real passion for assisting individuals with special needs in their own personal development.  Miss Patton, already working in the college as an instructor, will provide assistance and supervision to the students during the evening hours after school.  She has experience as a habilitation instructor at the Allegany (NY) ARC where she helped individuals in the areas of personal hygiene, social skills, handling money, community safety, nutrition, etc.  Jenna is a graduate of Houghton College.

Spiritual Life Director:  Paul Von Tobel has recently joined the staff at Shepherds where he will serve our residents and students alike.  Paul has extensive experience and training in special needs ministry, most recently serving on the staff of Joni & Friends.  Paul’s involvement in SC will be determined in the weeks and months ahead, but we anticipate that, among other things, he will lead a Bible study with our young men and be available for spiritual counseling.  Paul will also be serving as the pastor of our campus church - Shepherds Church.
